really getting excited about moving up there! can't wait for hunting and fishing to be a way of life instead of just hobbies, i moved to portland 8 years ago from wisconsin,were i grew up hunting and fishing as a way of life, and i miss it a lot. i hope that someone can give me some info about life in sitka. i hope that i'm not expecting to much and that i can come and just live

Sitka is a great place to live. Especially since you enjoy the outdoors. Price of living here is probably a tad more than your used to.

There are a lot of restaurants for a small town. Three oriental restaurants if you are into that! There are a fair share of bars in town as well.

We have a movie theatre. I have a web site SitkaMovies.com that tells what is playing.

HPR - Halibut Point Road and SMC - Saw Mill Creek Road are the two main drags of driving pleasure. Cruising in Sitka is great but you need to keep it under 45MPH. Oh, we have many police officers for a small town. We also have an Alaska Trooper Academy. So I believe the policing needs are A-OK.

We have two stoplights now. One at the downtown intersection of Lincoln and Lake St. and another out HPR and Katlian St. We had three stoplights going for awhile. Third one was on the bridge heading over to Japonski Island. Thankfully that one is gone now!

It is amazing, after being gone for quite awhile, when I go back to my home town now, it is "breath-taking" you can not find this type of beauty anywhere else in the world!!!
