Carver needs help
Hello from down under. I am a wood carver and clay sculptor located in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Recently I obtained a picture of a totem pole I think it is called The Raven and The Sun and is located somewhere near Saxman. I would like to try my hand at duplicating it but need some more info. Pictures of the totem showing up close details and demensions particularly the height, width, diameter, circumference and height of each section. If anyone is interested in suppling this info I would be willing to compensated them accordingly. Please contact me before doing any work. Thank you for your consideration. Best Wishes Bernie

According to the dictionary the word plagiarize means : to steal and pass off [ the ideas or words of another] as one's own: or use [a created production] without crediting the source. It is not my intention to copy the Raven and the Sun and pass it off as my own creation. As an artist I would try to duplicate the Totem pole as I would reproduce a eagle, a fox or any other animal. If copying the Totem would be plagiarism than all the succeeding First Nation artists who made totem poles would be a plagiarists. Using your logic art would stop after the first artist carved, painted or sculpted an object, animal or person. I would not be disrespectfull to the original artist, I admire them and only wanted to show my appreciation and admiration. My pole would be put in a place of honor on my property and would have a plaque describing the pole and it's history.
